Award for Distinguished Service
Marie Gerrity, wife of Jackson Laboratory Trustee Peter Gerrity and mother of four children, has loved the Laboratory for as long as she’s known her husband. With a long Gerrity family history of support and leadership of the Laboratory, Mrs. Gerrity learned about the Laboratory’s work early on and pledged to support the organization alongside her husband.
Recently Mrs. Gerrity has quietly, yet confidently, built her own niche for helping as a volunteer for the Maine Chapter of The National Council. From her home in southern Maine, she has jumped in feet-first by organizing and hosting events, taking friends to visit the Laboratory in Bar Harbor and recruiting volunteers within her social and community networks. From hosting an event in her home to arranging a Laboratory scientist to speak at North Yarmouth Academy, Mrs. Gerrity embodies the true spirit of The National Council’s value for volunteerism. She expresses passion and support for the Laboratory in her conversations with anyone who will listen. She truly thinks about the institution often and always with great affection and commitment. In her words, "It is not difficult to support and love this amazing organization."
